Murals to decorate Huron County towns

Huron County Tourism Development Officer, Rick Sickinger, says several municipalities are currently in the process of naming a local selection committee to guide the creation of murals.

Federal funding was made available and Goderich, Wingham, Exeter, Seaforth, Clinton and Bayfield all have access to it.

“Ultimately the local selection committee will be picking the final design, sometimes in consultation with the local council. The selection committee will be involved in selecting the site and will pick the final design and get approval from council,” said Sickinger. “Each of the murals will be guided by a local selection committee, so each community will end up with a mural that reflects their specific community and tells their story. So all six will be different.”

Sickinger says they will be issuing a call for artists shortly, but they also have the option of inviting some specific artists to apply.

He adds, one of the conditions attached to the funding is that the project be completed by the end of this year.
