Free menstrual product pilot launched at North Perth Public Library

The North Perth Public Library has launched a pilot program to provide free menstrual products in library spaces for all menstruating people.

This is able to be done through funding from the Friends of the North Perth Public Library group.

“We believe that all women should have access to feminine hygiene products without being concerned about finances or dignity,” said Friends President Tracy Weber.

Community members will be able to access these products in universal and/or female washrooms in the Listowel, Monkton, and Atwood libraries.

The goal of this campaign is to reduce barriers while combating period poverty.

“The North Perth Public Library’s new strategic plan sets a strategic priority to examine barriers to participation in our community and work to eliminate them. This project is the first step,” said Interim CEO Ellen Whelan.

Costs will be tracked with the goal of expanding the project to more publicly accessible Municipal buildings.
