Centre for Employment and Learning looking for September intake applications

The Centre for Employment and Learning is looking for applicants for this September's intake for their Reach for Success program.

Reach for Success Youth Program Coordinator Elizabeth Cubberley said the Reach for Success Youth program is a paid online job readiness training program.

“So for youth who reside in Huron County between the ages of 15-30, we essentially do pre-employment workshops with them and prepare them for a great local opportunity," said Cubberley. "The second part of the program is we help them find a paid work placement with a local employer.”

Cubberley said there are a lot of perks with the program.

“We cover the cost of training so everybody leaves with a first aid and CPR training, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling, Smart Serve, any of that work place specific training," she said.

When a person completes the training, they have a job waiting for them.

“We hope to give them the tools to be able to find and keep a job after the four weeks of workshop," she said. "Then we test those skills out in an eight-week supported placement. So there's kind of a training agreement between the employer, the participant, and ourselves. We make sure it's going to be a good fit.”

Cubberley added there are lots of options depending on what an applicant is looking for. There are part-time, full-time, casual, summer jobs, and they also help people with creative decision-making or post-secondary research if their goal is to go to school.

Students get paid minimum wage to attend the workshop. There's a $250 bonus for completing the work shop and a $500 bonus for completing their placement with a local employer.

Anyone interested can email them at rfs.cel@ed.amdsb.ca to set up an intake interview.
