North Perth is planning to do a "treasure hunt" weekend where the community can donate gently used items to those who might find them useful.
Manager of Environmental Services Mark Hackett says the idea behind the initiative is to encourage residents to hopefully help out their neighbours and reduce landfill strain.
"Treasure hunt weekend is an effort to make gently used items that you may not need anymore in your home available for free to other people whop may need or want them. We've chosen a weekend, the last weekend in May, to do this," Hackett detailed.
Hackett shares that the process will be fairly straightforward while also serving the environment.
"You can put these items out and we'll put a 'FREE' tag on that piece of whatever it is you've decided to put out, and then your neighbours or anyone could take that free item and make use of it. What this will do is allow us to put less items into the landfill and save some landfill space," added Hackett.
More details will be released courtesy of the municipal office in North Perth soon.
