Grey Roots Museum seeks local history contributions

Grey Roots Museum and Archives is calling on community members to help preserve Grey County’s history.

Over the next few months, local historian Richard J. Thomas will host a series of Historic Photo Submission Days, offering residents the opportunity to contribute their photographs to the region’s archival record.

The first submission day is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Meaford Public Library.

Additional events are planned for April in Hanover and May in Grey Highlands, with dates and locations to be announced soon.

Thomas will scan and digitize images on-site, ensuring original photographs are returned to their owners. Digital copies may be added to the Grey County Archives and considered for inclusion in the upcoming exhibition, Living Histories: Grey County, set to open in January 2026.

Contributors are encouraged to share the stories behind their photos, offering personal insights into the region’s rich heritage.

"Historical photographs provide invaluable glimpses into our shared past," said Thomas. "By digitally preserving these images, we make sure that the stories they tell can be shared with future generations."

Participants will also be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a family membership to Grey Roots Museum and Archives, with the draw taking place after the final submission day.

Living Histories: Grey County will feature a curated selection of historical photographs from the County archive, local museums, and private collections, providing visitors with a visual journey through the area’s past.

For more information on how to participate, visit greyroots.com or contact Curator Sim Salata at 548-877-0771 or Public Relations Coordinator Zak Erb at 548-877-0773.
