Unplanned service disruption could see discoloured tap water in Georgian Bluffs

Residents in Georgian Bluffs have been told to run cold water through their taps for several minutes after a water service disruption.

The unplanned disruption in the Oxenden water system happened on Thursday. The township advised residents that crews from the Ontario Clean Water Agency were deployed to restore services as quickly as possible.

"Following restoration, some residents may notice aeration (tiny air bubbles) in the water, which can cause a milky or cloudy appearance, as well as temporary discoloration due to naturally occurring sediment being disturbed in the watermains," the township said in a statement. "These conditions are normal after a service interruption and do not pose a health risk."

Affected residents should run their tap water on cold until it appears clear. This process could take several minutes. They should also avoid using hot water until the cold water runs clear, to prevent sediment from entering hot water tanks.
