Clinton emergency room returning to 24/7 service

After over six years of interrupted service, the Emergency Department at the Clinton Public Hospital will resume 24/7 operations.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) says starting June 1 at 8 a.m., the ER will be open all day and all night.

The overnight closures were put in place late in 2019, in what was called a "temporary measure."

Originally, the emergency department closed from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following day. Hours were expanded slightly in December 2024, opening the ER for 12 hours a day.

"Expanding Clinton Public Hospital’s Emergency Department service to 24/7 reflects our commitment and extensive efforts to provide safe, reliable, and accessible care for the community," said Andrew Williams, HPHA President and Chief Executive Officer. "With strengthened staffing and system supports, we are resuming full operating hours as was our commitment to Clinton and its surrounding communities."

In the announcement, HPHA extended its appreciation to nurses, staff, physicians, community members, local leaders, regional system partners, Ontario Health and Ministry of Health for their continued support.
