Pancakes For Mackinac Sailboat Race

The Rotary Club of Sarnia is preparing a classic pancake breakfast for those up early Saturday morning enjoying the Mackinac Race.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children for the pancake, sausage, and coffee or tea breakfast under the Bluewater Bridge 7am-11am.

Spokesman Michael John Kooy says for years residents have given an enthusiastic send off to boats in the Mackinac race.

"The breakfast goes back more than 30 years, the boat race itself, it's one of the oldest freshwater boat races in the world, certainly in North America," he says.

The first Mackinac race was held in 1925.

Kooy says they probably see more sailboats passing under the Bluewater Bridge than at any other time.

"They come from around North America to participate. They sail from Sarnia, from Port Huron all the way up to Mackinac which takes them a few days, depending on what the weather is like," says Kooy.

All proceeds from the breakfast benefit local initiatives including Bluewater Health and Pathways Children's Centre.
