Sarnia council is on board with plans to build a $5-million affordable seniors apartment building in the city's south end.
"I would like to applaud the vision of Vision Nursing Home," Councillor Bev MacDougall told CEO Heather Martin. "I think it's been a marvellous story of success over time. Increment by increment, building on, modernizing, sharing facilities and services on the property and I think that it demonstrates that you guys really walk the name of your organization."
The four storey housing project at 229 Wellington St., right at the corner of Crawford St., would include 21 one bedroom rental apartments and 15 bachelor units.
Construction, which would require the removal of about 21 parking spaces in the lot adjacent to Crawford St., could start in the next few months.
City council approved rezoning and bylaw amendments for the project Monday.
