Blackburn Radio's vision for 2020 includes a return to country music on CHOK 1070 AM, 103.9 FM.
Program Director Sue Storr said the format switch is effective Dec 26, 2019.
"Country music is one of the hottest formats in radio," said Storr. "Every week I hear from people by email, by phone, out in the community that say 'are you going to bring country back?' Here it is, it's time."
Storr said today's country is different and appeals to a wide demographic.
"Country music is not what you maybe grew up listening to with your grandparents, it's not necessarily that twang, it's got more of a rock and a pop feel to it. And it actually appeals to more people, young, old, male, female, it doesn't really matter," she said.
Local news, sports, community information and weather will continue to be a programming priority on CHOK. The station was launched on July 26, 1946 by Sarnia Broadcasting Company Ltd. -With files from Stephanie Chaves
