The city of Sarnia took steps to restrict access to parks and other recreational amenities Tuesday.
Parks and Recreation Director Rob Harwood said they're following direction from the province.
"Under the provincial emergency order all outdoor recreational amenities are closed," said Harwood. "That includes playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, beaches, skateboard and bmx parks, picnic areas, outdoor community gardens, park shelters, outdoor exercise equipment and basically they're just trying to get everybody to just stay home and wait this thing out."
Harwood said they've placed physical barriers in some areas to limit access to foot traffic only.
"You'll see that we put some armour stone up at Canatara Park to block some of the parking lot accesses there. We've closed Mike Weir Park entirely at the street and we've put barricades up, caution tape on playgrounds and areas like that. Basically anywhere that's a high touch type area."
Harwood said while people in Sarnia have been reasonably good, they have been out checking and have had to remind some groups of people that you can't be congregating right now.
