Fall Colour & Craft Festival to support Canatara Cabin reconstruction

Over 70 vendors will be at the annual Lambton Fall Colour and Craft Festival at the heritage museum in Grand Bend this weekend.

Lambton County Museums and Archives Marketing and Events Coordinator Jessica Stevenson said the artisan market will feature clothing, textile work, pottery, woodworking, bath products, candles, as well as indoor and outdoor décor.

"Quite a lot of holiday décor, if you want to get a jump start on your holiday decorating or your holiday shopping," she said. "There are some really cool food vendors, there's baked goods, there's produce, there's jams, jellies, and hot sauces, and all kinds of unique gift items."

Stevenson said there will also be family-friendly activities.

"They can come through the museum but we'll also be having historical demonstrations, including quilting and timber-framing," she said. "There will also be a really fun acorn craft in the [historic Rokeby School]."

The two-day event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on October 19 and October 20.

Stevenson said on average, they see about 3,500 visitors.

"It's our largest annual fundraising event and we've been holding a craft sale here at the museum for over 40 years," she said.

Admission is $5 per person and children aged 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

"All of the proceeds from our craft sale this year are going towards the Canatara Cabin reconstruction project," Stevenson said. "It looks like an actual cabin again, which is very exciting. It just kind of needs a few final details and we're hoping to have a grand opening in the spring."

The festival will be held rain or shine. Stevenson said some vendors will be outside and others will be inside exhibition display barns.

"The museum will be open as well so people can go through our Lambton gallery and they can also see our hockey exhibit," she said.

The travelling hockey exhibit will be open at the museum until November 9.

Further details about the event, including a full list of vendors, can be found on the museum's website.
