Faulty taillights lead to drug seizure and arrests

A Sarnia woman and an Ottawa man were arrested and charged after Sarnia police seized a significant amount of drugs and cash during a traffic stop Saturday.

An officer on general patrol observed a car with no taillights travelling southbound on Christina Street in the area of Talfourd Street at around 4 a.m.

As the officer approached the vehicle, two occupants were shuffling around inside.

Both the driver and passenger ended up being arrested and a search of the individuals located drugs, paraphernalia and cash.

In total, 23 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $11,500, six grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $600, 2 grams of cocaine with a street value of $200 and $2,820 in cash were seized.

Cassandra Lynn Chalmers, 29, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine, and methamphetamine).

Richard Wallace Gray, 37, of Ottawa, faces one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl), one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and one count of driving while under suspension.

Both individuals were being held pending bails hearings.
