Walpole Island heads to the polls

Over 40 candidates are competing for a spot on the Walpole Island First Nation band council in the upcoming election on Saturday, September 19.

The race includes seven individuals running for the position of chief, with incumbent Leela Thomas among them.

Meanwhile, 36 community members are vying for the 12 available council seats.

Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Governance Building at 117 Tahgahoning Road. 

Ballots will be counted as soon as the poll closes, with official results announced immediately afterward.

Details surrounding a swearing in ceremony were not immediately available.

PW Fall Fair celebrates 180 years

Gates for the three-day fair will open at the Wyoming Fair Grounds on Main Street on Friday, September 18, at 5 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m.
