Sarnia police make two arrests in unrelated traffic stops

The Sarnia Police COPPS Unit made two arrests in unrelated traffic stops on Wednesday.

Officers stopped a suspended driver and found several stolen licence plates in the vehicle.

Police allege the plates were recently used in a number of drive-off gas thefts in the city.

A 26-year-old man is charged with property obtained by crime under $5000, and suspended driving.

Police also stopped a car in the area of Confederation Street and Trudeau Drive.

They said the driver exited the vehicle and became confrontational with the officer.

Police said they confiscated a "flick knife" from the suspect, which is a prohibited weapon under the Criminal Code of Canada, and a quantity of improperly stored cannabis.

The suspect was eventually handcuffed after allegedly resisting arrest.

A 21-year-old Corunna man faces one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon, one count of resisting a peace officer, and one count of driving a vehicle with cannabis in open baggage under the Cannabis Control Act.
