The City of Sarnia is set to begin spraying for gypsy moths this Friday.
The city's Gypsy Moth Control Program will focus on an area roughly 50 hectares large, with four areas determined to have severe infestations:
- North of Hollywood Place, between Marcin Road & Newell Street - South of Michigan Avenue to Errol Road West, between Christina Street and Newell Street - South of Michigan Road to Rosedale Avenue, between Colborne Road & Matthews Avenue (Lakeview Cemetery) - Canatara Park, west of Lake Chipican
In a news release Saturday, the city said Zimmer Air Services is scheduled to administer the aerial spray May 14 between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., weather permitting.
The second spray application will occur within five to 10 days of the first spray, again, depending on the weather.
Homeowners within the four spray areas have been notified.
The city said members of the public are unlikely to experience any health effects, and no special precautions are necessary or required. Individuals who have concerns should take reasonable precautions to avoid exposure during an application period of the program.
Sarnia council approved this year's gypsy moth program, estimated to cost $60,000, in April.
