Renovations at Sarnia Christian School are starting to take form.
Principal Len Smit said construction ramped up in early September for the foundation of the school's new kindergarten rooms and common eating area.
"It's nice to see daily progress. I think certain stages of construction always seem to go faster than others and right now we're seeing progress," he said. "We're going to see some time where they're putting the inground stuff so you don't see much happening."
Smit said structural insulated panels (SIPs) are being used for the addition which will allow the construction process to move quicker.
"SIP panels are kind of like giant lego blocks and once the floor is poured, you'll see the walls go up real quick because these are kind of pre-made panels," he said.
Smit also said there are energy-efficient reasons for using the panels.
At this point, Smit said renovations are still expected to be complete by September 2022. He also said it's hoped that the roof will be on before the region starts to get snow.
Plans were previously delayed due to impacts brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
