Lambton County OPP HQ interview room gets makeover

The interview room at Lambton County's provincial police headquarters in Petrolia has received a much-needed renovation.

On Tuesday, the Lambton Group Police Services Board and Lambton Ontario Provincial Police unveiled the newly transformed interview room, where many go to tell harrowing stories to police.

"It was important for us to develop a space where people we interview felt safe and comfortable," said Sgt. Jennifer Wilson, who led the renovation project. "The way our interview room previously looked did not reflect that, it was a very cold and dull space."

Through funding from the provincial government, the space was able to receive a transformation which included a fresh coat of paint, new furniture, and artwork from Jeffrey (Red) George of Red Dog Art Studio, an Ojibway artist from Kettle & Stony Point First Nation.

"In many situations, we are speaking with youth, victims of a crime or sexual assault and having this space enables them to feel safe and relaxed while speaking with us," said Sgt. Wilson.

Murray Jackson, Chair of the Lambton Group Police Services Board said the space turned out better than he could have imagined.

"This project meant a lot to each of our members, in supporting our community members during a very difficult moment in time," said Jackson. "Our officers in Lambton do an exceptional job, aiding to provide them this space to continue with successes of an investigation and police work is a great asset."
