Many Grand Bend residents have expressed the desire for a community centre to be built in the Lake Huron resort town.
A group of community members recently presented a proposal to Lambton Shores council emphasizing the local interest and need for the facility.
As a result, an advisory committee has been formed to help explore the feasibility of the ambitious project.
Committee Chair and Councillor Dave Maguire said the first step will identify the needs of the community and the logistics behind what a project like this would involve.
"That could involve gymnasium space, meeting rooms, a kitchen and those kinds of things," said Maguire. "This is just a preliminary thing to see what we need for the project to move it forward and make sure we're capturing the community's needs and not erecting something that isn't needed by the community."
Maguire said the committee recently ratified the hiring of a professional consulting firm to complete the feasibility study.
He said the group will work closely with the successful firm to provide a comprehensive public consultation program.
The municipality has posted a request for proposal (RFP) for the project and will be accepting proposals until May 3, 2023.
Plans are still in the early stages and a location, timeline and costs have not been finalized.
Once the feasibility study is complete, it will be presented to council for approval and discussions on next steps.
