Another information night to recruit new licensed home child care providers

Another information night is being planned locally to recruit new licensed home child care providers, but this time it's in Sarnia.

Wee Watch and Lambton Rural Child Care have teamed up to host the session at the Sarnia Evangelical Missionary Church, at 707 Talfourd Street on Wednesday, June 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wee Watch Vice President Lisa Parise said there was a good amount of interest in a similar session in Petrolia in May.

"There were about 30 to 35 people that attended that event," said Parise. "[There were] a lot of good questions there and people were prepared and eager to learn, so it was a really good session. So, this one again, is a session to build awareness around licensed home child care and give people some information, dispel myths about what licensed home child care is and what a career with a licensed home child care agency is like."

She said licensed home child care agencies will be present, as well as The WorkPlace Group.

"With lower daycare rates now, the demand for child care has increased significantly. Parents are looking for options where they can have part of their daycare fees funded by the government. So, one of the quickest ways to open up new spaces is actually through licensed home childcare, versus a daycare centre," said Parise.

Parise said the demand for child care is high regardless if you're in the county or city.

"I think a lot of people aren't aware sometimes that there's options like licensed home child care, which works great for people who have non-traditional work hours. Daycare centres typically operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and licensed home child care is much more flexible than that," she said.

Limited child minding is available during the event, but registration is required to guarantee a spot.
