Bright's Grove to celebrate Canada Day this Saturday

Canada Day festivities will be held one week early in the grove.

Bright's Grove Optimist Club Member Ben Turner said they have a variety of things planned for Saturday, June 24.

"Traditionally we've kicked off our celebrations with a parade, but new this year, we've partnered with Zumba in the Grove to offer a free, family friendly Zumba fitness class," said Turner. "That's going to be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Kenwick Park."

Turner said the parade will be held at 11 a.m.

"That starts at the library in Wildwood Park and ends at Kenwick Park. So, residents will start to see some road closures around 10:30 in Bright's Grove as people gather along the parade route down Hamilton Road, to Waterworks and to Old Lakeshore Road," he said.

Turner said anyone can participate in the parade.

"Kids and families in the community are invited to decorate their bikes or wagons and participate in the parade. We just ask that they arrive at the Bright's Grove Library around 10:30 a.m.," he added.

Once the parade arrives at Kenwick Park, a variety of events will get rolling from noon until 3 p.m.

"We've got a barbecue, rides for the kids, face painting, a balloon artist and many more activities," said Turner. "So, for those coming to Kenwick Park for the afternoon, we're also encouraging more active modes of transportation, including walking and cycling, as the parade route and the park can get very busy."

The day will wrap up with a free, family friendly, evening concert.

"Music will be provided by the Geoff Masse Band. This concert will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in a licensed area of Kenwick Park," he said
