Moore Museum showcases new model trains

The Moore Museum will welcome guests to its model train event on Sunday, where larger displays will be featured this year.

The event will run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on July 2.

Volunteer Tom Walter said they have a new layout this year of G-scale trains.

"They're actually meant to go in the garden, they're larger than the average model train. They're up on a deck which is about five feet off the ground, they share a space with some agricultural equipment, that display is 40 feet long [and] there's about 100 feet of track on it," Walter said. "We're doing another temporary layout, which is about nine square feet and it'll feature a little harbour scene."

Walter said the event will also feature military railway models, donated in late 2022.

"We have more new stuff this year than we've ever had in the past," he said.

The model train event held during last year's Canada Day weekend saw about 200 attendees. Walter said prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event would sometimes attract around 300 people.

"It's a great family event because there's stuff for the kids, grandparents, and stuff for the history buffs who show up," he said. "Some of our layouts pay tribute to some of the history locally. We try to make Lambton County an underlying theme in our train layouts."

Admission is $6 per adult and $3 per child.
