More than $150K in drugs, property seized in Stratford bust

An investigation led by several provincial police detachments and Stratford police resulted in the seizure of more than $150,000 in illegal drugs, property, and cash.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Units in Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce counties, along with members of the Stratford Police Service Street Crime Team, arrested a male suspect in Mitchell as part of a drug trafficking probe.

Following the man’s arrest, police attended two properties, one on West Gore Street in Stratford, and one on Homes Street in Mitchell, to conduct search warrants.

During the investigation, officers seized unspecified quantities of suspected methamphetamine and hydromorphone capsules. Investigators pegged the value of the substances seized at approximately $133,300.

In addition to the drugs, police also found various items, including digital scales, packaging material, cell phones, a BB gun, 3D printed handgun components, a taser, stolen police shirts, and a police badge worth a total of around $22,700. Police also found $485 in cash.

As a result, a 44-year-old Stratford man is charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule One substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a weapon contrary to a probation order, and unauthorized possession of a weapon.

The accused was held for a bail hearing scheduled on Thursday.
