Feedback sought on Lambton Shores community improvement plan

The final gathering to collect feedback on a draft community improvement plan (CIP) in Lambton Shores is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28.

Mayor Doug Cook said the plan aims to provide financial incentives, in the form of grants, to owners of businesses in core commercial areas.

"I think the dollar amount was up to $10,000, hoping that businesses would take advantage of that if they're doing façade improvements or just a streetscape in front of their business, we can offer some kind of incentive there to encourage more businesses to take advantage of that," said Cook.

He said the program will be used to promote the beautification of public spaces, or make commercial property and economic development improvements.

"I'm not saying we're getting tired by any means, but some of the areas in the downtown cores could use a bit of a facelift and it would be nice if the municipality steps up and offers some incentive to help them move forward," he said.

Cook said the grants could also be used to improve accessibility, or energy efficiency.

"Whether it's insulation in your building, or maybe conversion of electricity over to gas, that's an opportunity to take advantage of that," he said.

The public meeting will be held in council chambers at the Lambton Shores Municipal Administration Building, on Port Franks Road in Thedford.

It will be part of the regularly scheduled council meeting at 7 p.m.
