No injuries in boat in distress call

Sarnia Fire Rescue is highlighting the importance of life jackets following a boat in distress call early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called at 2 a.m. just past the mouth of the Sarnia Yacht Club by the Cove.

Firefighters said the vessel with four people on board had run aground and was taking on heavy water.

Sarnia Fire initiated a three truck response to make contact with the distressed boaters.

When firefighters arrived they learned the boaters abandoned ship and safely made it to shore.

There were no injuries and every person on board was wearing a life jacket.

The boaters were placed in a Sarnia Fire truck for warmth until they were picked up by friends and family.
