UPDATE: Recall issued on brands of plant-based beverages due to Listeria

A possible contamination of popular plant-based beverages has resulted in a recall.

Danone Canada has issued a recall for varieties of Silk and Great Value refrigerated beverages, due to possible Listeria contamination.

"This recall was triggered by findings during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak," read the recall notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. "There have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products."

The CFIA has launched an investigation, which could lead to additional recalls.

The recalled beverages involve varieties with a product code of 7825 and in either 1.75-liter, or 1.89-litre packages.

If you have any of these products, do not consume them. Throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.

On Tuesday, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore issued a warning to residents not to consume these products.

"As of July 8, 2024, nine confirmed cases of listeriosis have been reported in Ontario as part of an ongoing investigation that is linked to the recalled products," said Moore. "There have been five hospitalizations associated with this outbreak investigation. I strongly advise the public, especially those at high risk for listeriosis, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weak immune systems, to make sure they do not consume these recalled products."

A complete listing of products affected by this recall can be found on the CFIA website.
