Warnings posted at several Lake Huron beaches

Five area beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming following heavy rainfall and high winds earlier this week.

Lambton Public Health said on Thursday, July 11 that warning signs were posted at Grand Bend's north and south beaches, Ipperwash Main Beach, Bright's Grove (including Mike Weir Park beach), and Canatara.

Following heavy rainfall, the water at area beaches may be temporarily polluted for up to 48 hours.

Residents are advised to check the water quality status before going to the beach.

One can do that by texting the keyword: BEACH to 226-909-3003, viewing LPH's map of beach locations and inspection results, calling the Beach Info Line at 519-383-3816 or toll-free 1-800-667-1839 extension 3816, or by viewing signs at the inspected beach location entry points.

On Wednesday, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority said the watershed received 30 to 75 millimetres of rainfall over a 24-hour timespan due to post-tropical storm Beryl.
