A 42-year-old Canadian man is facing charges in the United States after 266 pounds of cocaine was seized at the Blue Water Bridge.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said the drugs were discovered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the investigation has since been passed on to the St. Clair County Drug Task Force.
"Our partnerships with other law enforcement agencies from local to federal are absolutely essential in keeping drugs out of our community," said Sheriff Mat King. "The Drug Task Force's impact goes far beyond the confines of the Sheriff's Office."
According to the Sheriff's Office, the drugs were discovered in a "semi-tractor and trailer" at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1.
CBP said an x-ray scan and inspection by officers and a Canine team revealed 100 bricks of suspected narcotics concealed behind a false wall within the trailer.
