Sarnia and Windsor streets make CAA’s 'Worst Roads' Top 5

The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) has released the results of its annual Worst Roads campaign, and four Sarnia streets have cracked the top five in southwestern Ontario.

Manager of Government Relations Lauren Fisher said Blackwell Sideroad tops the regional list.

It placed second in 2025 and third in 2024.

"This road was nominated for its potholes and poor road maintenance, specifically at Michigan Line and Confederation Line," said Fisher. "New to the list, in the second spot, we had Errol Road East. The top intersection cited there was Concordia Drive for its potholes and uneven road surfaces."

According to the city's website, asphalt replacement is planned for later this year on Errol Road East from Tawny Road to Cathcart Boulevard.

Indian Road South placed third, with the worst intersection being at Churchill Road. Vidal Street South rounded out the list at number five, with the worst spot being at Clifford Street.

The only road outside of Sarnia to make the top five was Windsor's Riverside Drive East.

The top intersections there were at Goyeau Street and Jefferson Boulevard. Potholes, unpaved roads and poor road maintenance were the common themes.

Fisher said the CAA's Worst Roads Campaign is a great tool for the agency to advocate to the government for improvements.

"After the campaign wraps up we have those conversations with the municipal and provincial governments," she said. "We'll share this information and see if we can get some funding or get any of these projects fast tracked so they can come off the list in the upcoming campaigns."

Fisher said they've seen success in the past.

That includes the removal of Sarnia's Plank Road from the list in 2025 after it was featured in the regional top five since 2019.

"For County Road 49 in Prince Edward County, this is the first year that it hasn't been on our provincial top 10 list in seven years," said Fisher. "That's because the municipality has committed to rehabilitating the entire road."

The CAA's 10 worst roads across Ontario are:

1. Barton Street East, Hamilton

2. Hurontario Street, Mississauga

3. Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury

4. Sider Road, Fort Erie

5. Steeles Avenue East, Toronto

6. Sheppard Avenue West, Toronto

7. Panache Lake Road, Sudbury

8. Bathurst Street, Toronto

9. Unwin Avenue, Toronto

10. 6th Line, Innisfil
