Increase In Sarnia Thefts

Sarnia Police Service has seen a month to month increase in thefts locally.

So far this year there have been 206 reported thefts, up from 162 this time last year.

Police Chief Phil Nelson says many of those could have been prevented.

Sarnia police typically see an increase in crimes of opportunity as the weather gets warmer.

Chief Nelson urges residents to make sure their homes are properly secured and well lit and vehicles are locked. Crime Prevention Tips can also be found on the Sarnia Police Service website.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
