UPDATE: Potential Reopening Of Entropex Stalled By Contract Rejection

Members of UAW Local 251 have voted against a four-year contract that reportedly would have led to the reopening of Sarnia's Entropex plant under new ownership.

Union Chair Robert Spinks says workers voted 69-19 against the new deal during a meeting over the noon hour Thursday at Clearwater Arena.

He says members didn't agree with a few conditions put forward by the potential new owner, although he would not get into specifics.

Spinks says the union will try to put together a new proposal now and hopefully reopen talks in the future.

The Entropex plant, on Lougar Ave., closed after 40 years in operation in mid-July, throwing 155 employees out of work.

It had become a world leader in the reprocessing of used industrial and consumer plastics.

The identity of the potential new owner is not being revealed until a new contract is finalized.
