Financial Struggles At Crime Stoppers

Financial challenges are putting a burden on Sarnia-Lambton's Crime Stoppers.

Program coordinator Les Jones says they are running out of funds to pay out rewards for tips and operating costs as well.

"It's always a struggle to raise funds and especially here locally," says Jones. "Things have changed. We no longer have a police officer as a coordinator, so now we are burdened with paying the wages for part-time coordinators."

President Sean Robbins says they are fortunate to get some funding from the Sarnia Police Service, which also provides the group free office space.

"We get to house our meetings there but we still fall greatly short of the goal we need to pay out the tips," says Robbins.

Robbins is encouraging Sting fans to support their chuck-a-puck event during the game against Saginaw on Family Day.

The organization also plans to resurrect its Jail and Bail event this May, with a new feature using social media.

January is national Crime Stoppers month. If you're interested in making a donation, or even volunteering with the organization, you can contact the group at 519-344-8861 ext. 5204
