Organ Donations Jump In Sarnia

Sarnia continues to lead the way on organ and tissue donations.

New data from the Trillium Gift of Life Network showed 47% of Sarnia residents are registered organ donors, well above the provincial average of 30%

"It's a reflection of a very caring, kind, compassionate community," she says. "And you have a group of advocates with the Sarnia Organ Donor Awareness Group that sets up events to raise awareness and keep the education high."

In 2016, Bluewater Health cared for the families of four organ donors, a 300% increase over 2015

And 13 Sarnia residents are currently waiting for a medically urgent organ transplant

The statistics also showed province-wide, deceased organ donation increased by 30%.

About 1,500 Ontarians are currently waiting for an organ transplant.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
