March Housing Starts Steady

Sarnia area housing starts were steady in March.

CMHC market Analyst Anthony Passarelli says there wasn't a big jump in starts last month, but that's expected to change.

Work started on nine single family homes bringing the year-to-date total to 20, down from 24 in the first three months of 2016.

"Historically in the first three months of the year its quite slow in Sarnia, even slower than say some larger centres," says Passarelli.

"Given the condition of the housing market where we see a low supply of homes for sale and a high number of buyers, I'd anticipate you'll see starts pick up as they normally do seasonally but it will be a bit of a stronger pick up this year."

Numbers include the city, St.Clair Township and Point Edward.
