Alvinston's fastball teams are going back to their roots.
The senior and junior teams are moving away from the controversial Indians nickname and will now be known as the Aces.
The clubs were originally known as the Aces from the late 1970s until 1995.
Manager Paul McCart says their hand was forced a bit, with Alvinston Minor Ball switching from the Indians to the Riverhawks.
The association made international headlines last fall when it decided to drop its Cleveland Indians-based logo in reaction to controversy over its appropriateness.
He says, in the end it was the right decision to make for the team.
"There's a lot of different kids teams they were going and playing, and apparently they were running into some issues," says McCart. "I'd never seen it, I've had a few play for me and I've played against a lot of teams over the years. But, at the end of the day, I think we're doing the right thing and that's all that matters."
McCart says the logo is written in cursive, with baseball and Canadian flag patches on the sleeves.
"I'm really happy with how it's turned out, I should have the final jerseys next week," says McCart. "It was a lot of work putting it together but we had a lot of input from a lot of the young guys and some of the older ones as well. This is what we've come up with, and we're very happy about it."
The Southwest Middlesex League season schedule hasn't been released yet, but McCart says they could start as early as May 4.
