Section Of Hwy. 401 To Close For Two Nights

Hwy. 401 at Hwy. 19 near Ingersoll will be closed in both directions from 9pm until 6am Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Ministry of Transportation spokesperson Liane Fisher says it's for replacement of the Hwy. 19 bridge over the 401, which was demolished earlier this month.

"These are six large bridge sections that were assembled off-site," says Fisher. "Sections of bridge girders and bridge deck will be lifted into place by cranes which is why we need the closure."

Fisher says major delays are expected in the area. Hwy. 401 traffic will be re-routed via Hwy. 19 interchange ramps, with assistance from the OPP.

Hwy. 19 will also be shut down from Clarke Rd. to Curry Rd. for the two nights.

Construction of the new bridge is expected to be finished by the fall.

The total project cost is about $10.3-million.
