Since its opening 17 years ago, Point Edward has received over $41-million from its waterfront casino. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) issued a quarterly payment of nearly $615,000 to the village Friday for the April to June 2017 period. Mayor Bev Hand says their growing casino jackpot over the years has been used for capital projects and various community donations. "We were requested to donate to Lambton College and we did go into the funding agreement with them over the next five years," says Hand. "We were asked to donate to St. Clair Child and Youth, they had a particular project in mind, we were able to say yes to that and to different charities that we donate to throughout the year." Late last month new owner-operator, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, announced a $26-million renovation to rebrand the gaming facility as a "Starlight Casino." The casino opened in April 2000.
