They combat climate change, clean the air, save water and give us something pretty to look at in the fall.
Forests Ontario's 50 Million Tree Program reminds landowners with a minimum of one hectare of property that they're eligible for funding to plant trees on their property.
Spokesperson Suzanne Perry says they'll pick up 75% of planting costs and forest management assistance. The minimum order is 1500 seedlings and cost varies with the type of tree selected.
"The lower end would be about 15 cents a tree," says Perry. "Then the planting partner would put them in the ground for you and conduct survival assessment in the first, second and fifth year after planting."
Trees provide pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinators early in the spring before fruit trees and plants flower. They also provide homes for nesting birds and animals.
The goal is to plant 50 million trees by 2025.
