Bitter cold north winds and snow didn't deter about 100 people from attending the annual Remembrance Day service at Aamjiwnaang First Nation during the 11th hour Friday morning.
The ceremony, at the Aamjiwnaang Cenotaph on Tashmoo Ave., is always held in advance of November 11, so residents can attend Sarnia's ceremony at the cenotaph near the library downtown.
Grade 3, 4 and 5 students from Cathcart Blvd. Public School received a round of applause after singing O'Canada in Ojibwe during the ceremony.
Aamjiwnaang lost its last World War II veteran in 2015, 94-year-old Stanley Jackson.
Chief Joanne Rogers, Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley, MPP Bob Bailey and St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold were among the dignitaries in attendance.
Members of the Sarnia Police Service and the Sarnia Fire and Rescue Service also took part in the ceremony.
