The leader of the Conservative Party of Canada says as prime minister he would take steps to keep energy investment in the country.
Andrew Scheer made the comment Wednesday in Sarnia where petrochemicals remain the prime industry.
He says the current Trudeau government is punishing the energy sector with unnecessary barriers.
"We see that it's leading to billions of dollars of investment leaving the country, taking good jobs along with it, so a conservative government under my leadership would streamline our approval process to make it predictable and I would repeal the carbon tax," says Scheer. "I believe those are two key things to keep energy investment in Canada, keeping those thousands and thousands of jobs here at home."
Scheer was a special guest at the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce "Business After Five" event at the Riding Club Wednesday evening.
He addressed small business tax concerns and spoke about the federal budget to be delivered next Tuesday, February 27.
Scheer, who was elected party leader last May, also met with Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu's youth council during his visit.
