Committee set to review council code of conduct

Sarnia council has established a Committee of the Whole to review the city's code of conduct and procedure bylaw.

That means all eight councillors and the mayor will be included, rather than just four as previously recommended.

Councillor Brian White welcomes varying opinions.

"With new perspectives, it's always a good opportunity to review the process and maybe try some ideas that weren't thought of before," said White. "It's always a good chance to get together and have an open and frank discussion which I think will come out of this group."

The code of conduct was the subject of controversy during the past term of council, with some arguing it was overly restrictive.

The review committee is being formed as the city issues another request for proposals [RFP] for integrity commissioner services for the next four years.

Council did not act on the first RFP that included four bids, the lowest submitted by current commissioner Robert Swayze at $18,500.
