War Amps key tags in the mail

The War Amps' popular key tag program is back for another year.

Residents will be getting the tags in the mail, and are encouraged to attach them to their keychain.

If someone finds the lost keys, they can put them in any community mailbox and they'll be returned to the rightful owner.

Public Awareness Officer James Jordan said since the program began in 1946, they've returned 1.5 million sets of lost keys. He said it's a free service but donations are welcome.

"If we do receive any donations for this service it goes to help amputees across the country, mainly child amputees through our Champ program," said Jordan. "It provides financial assistance for artificial limbs, literally giving these kids a leg to stand on and an arm to grab with."

Jordan said as an amputee himself, he knows the value of the War Amps program.

War Amps is a registered Canadian charity established in 1918 to meet the needs of war amputees.

If you didn't get your key tags or would like more information you can visit www.waramps.ca or call 1-800-250-3030.
