After two years of delays, plans are on track to welcome students to the new Great Lakes Secondary School next month.
Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent Brian McKay said classroom preparation has started at the Murphy Road site.
"We have occupancy of the existing school, so IT staff is in there now prepping all of the IT equipment in the classrooms and the main office," said McKay. "We have our custodial teams in there as well prepping the rooms. We've also started to move furniture and equipment."
McKay said the addition, which houses the auditorium theatre and Indigenous partner space isn't quite finished. He said they're working with contractors to have that wrapped up before Christmas.
The education ministry provided $10.3 million towards the $25 million project.
In the meantime, the future of the former SCITS school on Wellington Street is unknown. The building housed Great Lakes students while construction of the new site was completed.
