Steam threshers show in Forest this weekend

The 62nd annual Western Ontario Steam Threshers show is this weekend at the Forest Fairgrounds.

Friday's highlights include a parade of power, candy in the straw, live music, and the popular vintage tractor pull.

Transportation to the farmers market will be available during the morning.

Spokesman Connor Weed said some of the machines featured were involved in breaking a world record near Ottawa recently.

There were 243 threshing machines operating simultaneously in St. Albert last Sunday, which is the most in history.

"We're going to have some of those exact same threshers on-site in Forest this weekend," said Weed. "We had some of our members down in Ottawa this past weekend breaking that record. It was a huge event, and a few of those will be running in Forest this weekend."

On Saturday there will be bingo, tractor games, a fashion show, heavy horse show, fiddle contest, live music, and a spark show.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a church service, tractor Olympics, antique tractor pull and more.

Weed said the tractor Olympics are always popular among the crowd.

"It's farm Olympics which you usually see at fairs, but it's done on tractors," he said. "So, it's egg on a spoon in your mouth while you're driving the tractor, you have to weave through barrels on a tractor, and they're all timed events."

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.
