UPDATE: Crews battle Petrolia area combine fire (GALLERY)

The cause of a combine fire east of Petrolia Sunday afternoon is still being investigated and the extent of damage is still being assessed.

Petrolia & North Enniskillen Fire Department firefighters were called just before 4 p.m. to the 5900 block of Lasalle Line.

Fire Chief Jay Arns said with the help of the Oil Springs Fire Department and the owner, they were able to prevent further damage to the shed housing the combine.

"So the combine itself was on fire which was inside the drive shed, so as a result of the combine fire, it damaged portions of the drive shed. We did hook on and drag it out of the barn at the safest time we could do so and finished extinguishing the exterior."

Arns said a damage estimate is not yet known.

"We're accessing it again Monday morning to see. A good save on most of the barn, but the owner will probably have to repair some parts of the barn, for sure."

No injuries were reported.
