The first sign of snow made for a very busy day for West Region OPP Thursday. By mid-afternoon provincial police had reported 74 collisions since 6 a.m.
In Lambton County there was a five vehicle collision in the southbound lanes on Highway 40 between Churchill Road and Lasalle Line Thursday morning. No injuries were reported. Police also responded to a second separate crash involving two vehicles in the same general area but in the northbound lanes of Highway 40. Police say several collisions occurred on slippery roads in the same area between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m. OPP say an SUV rear-ended a pickup truck pulling a cargo trailer in a construction zone on westbound Highway 402 near Oil Heritage Road. The highway was already reduced to a single lane for construction but the crash caused a complete closure for about 30 minutes. One driver was charged. Heavy snow is expected Thursday night into Friday due to lake effect snow squalls.
