Renovation work for the return of slots at Hiawatha Horse Park was the single largest building permit issued by Sarnia City Hall in October.
The $2.9 million permit at the London Line entertainment centre is for the interior renovation of the existing casino game floor and support space.
City council approved the return of slot machines in May after the Doug Ford government reached an agreement with Gateway, the owner/operator of Point Edward's Starlight Casino.
The other major permit issued in October is for $1.6 million worth of interior alterations at the former Sears building at Lambton Mall that will house a new Marshalls/HomeSense store.
City hall issued 52 permits last month for $10.6 million, bringing the year-to-date total to $63.6 million, over $10 million behind last year's pace.
A major $31 million permit, however, for Tricar Group's 15 storey waterfront apartment tower on Front Street North, was under final review at city hall.
Permits for single-family homes in the city are far behind 2018's pace. Six were issued in October for a 10-month total of 45, compared to 75 last year.
