Cookie campaign sets new record for Noelle's Gift

Sarnia residents ate over 42,000 cookies during this year's Smile Cookie campaign, in support of Noelle's Gift.

Tim Horton's restaurants in Sarnia and Bright's Grove brought in a record-high $42,222.39 during the week-long, nationwide fundraiser in September.

Noelle's Gift Co-Founder Nicole Paquette said in total, the area restaurants were dishing out around 500 cookies an hour.

"Hats off to the bakers because they had a lot of work to do. I actually helped decorate cookies at the one store and I myself did five-dozen in just a few hours. They said this has been their busiest year yet," she said. "For every cookie sold it was $1, and that whole dollar came to us, so it was over 42,200 cookies, which means our community sure likes cookies."

Paquette said the money raised will help Noelle's Gift support area students.

"So it'll be distributed through the school boards, different organizations in the community such as Rebound, Inn of the Good Shepherd, Summer Snacks program, Organization for Literacy. So just to ensure that students have all the resources they need to grow up great."

The annual Smile Cookie campaign raised a record $9.8 million across Canada for over 550 charities, hospitals and community groups, breaking the previous record of $7.8 million in 2018.
