The Sarnia Legionnaires (9-11-1-2) lost 9-3 to the first-place London Nationals (24-3-0-1) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night at the Brock St. Barn.
The Legionnaires trailed the contest 3-0 after the first period before Joe Ferrera scored 1:14 into the second to make it a 3-1 game.
The Nationals pulled ahead 4-1 just three minutes later.
Legionnaires forward Cameron Ware was handed nine minutes in penalties following a one-man fight against London's Josh Castle.
The Nationals made Sarnia pay with three straight powerplay goals to open up a 7-1 lead.
London scored shorthanded for an 8-1 lead early in the third period. Jett Morningstar and Nolan DeGurse scored to cut the lead to 8-3 before London added another to seal the win.
Cohen Kiteley led the attack for the Nationals with two goals and two assists. Josh LeBlanc had two goals and a helper, while Zach Sheedy and Michael Boushy each had a goal and two assists.
London's powerplay capitalized on four of five chances, while the Legionnaires scored twice on 10 opportunities including a lengthy five on three.
Legionnaires goalie Justin Vertesi made 28 saves on 37 shots in his debut with the club. Devyn Clark turned aside 32 of 35 Sarnia shots.
The Legionnaires sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with 21 points, one up on Strathroy.
Sarnia's next game is Friday night against the last-place Stars in St. Thomas.
They head to LaSalle next Wednesday before hosting Strathroy on Thursday.
