Student achievement recognized with virtual graduation ceremonies

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is embracing technology to celebrate graduating students this year.

Director of Education Deb Crawford said St. Patrick's High School held its first-ever virtual graduation ceremony Sunday.

“COVID-19 has forced many changes on our society in the past three-and-a-half months,” said Crawford. “But our St. Pat’s staff, graduates and their families did not let the virus keep them from celebrating this momentous occasion. It was an amazing day!”

In addition to an online graduation video, students and their families participated in a drive-up parade where they were able to get out of the vehicle to cross a stage, accept their diploma and have a picture taken.

St. Patrick’s Principal Chris Kehoe said students also made up for the cancellation of this year's Cyclone Aid food drive, by bringing non-perishable food donations for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Another virtual graduation ceremony is planned at Ursuline College in Chatham on June 24 and virtual Grade 8 graduations will be held at all elementary schools throughout the month of June.
